VOIP circuit switching
Circuit switching is inefficient method for connecting calls existing in phone systems. Since past 100 years telephone networks use this technology so its s very basic concept. When you are connecting two points to different directions with a view to maintain a connection is called circuit.
Now let’s understand the procedure of how telephone works:
- To check your connection, pick up a receiver and check for a dial tone
- Get connected to the local office telephone carrier
- Dial the number of a person whom you wanted to talk, the number is routed to the switch at local telephone office
- Connection is there between the parties
- On the other hand the phone rings
- The connection start the service
- You talk for a duration then put down the receiver
- At that point of time circuit is closed
As an example let say you had a conversation of 10 minutes, the circuit is continuously open for 10 minutes between the two parties.
In past years a wire line was being used to make a call so there was a wire stretching between both the parties through out the duration of call so it means just for a talk of 10 minutes there was a need of a long wire likewise you are in LA and you wanted to call in Boston, you have switches all the way between LA and Boston just for the talk for 10 minutes. You had to pay high as the distance is too long. Moreover telephone conversation in today’s era is more efficient and offers a lower rate. Your voice is digitized and your voice along with a single bunch of wires but combined with one going into your home. These calls are transmitted at a fixed rate depending on the service providers. However as these technologies is getting more and more popularity some providers have come up with the facility of free calls just for nominal amount like cell phones rental plan. They offer all the facilities like caller id, call barring, call forwarding, call transfers, and call conference for free of cost.
